OVERVIEW
what is ridgeway? ridgeway is a supernatural based community set in dublin, ireland. ridgeway is a hidden town within ireland that exists only for supernatural creatures and beings. it is very much like diagon alley (harry potter). you can read more about ridgeway here.

policy regarding what kinds of characters can be played: characters should all be original. they can be any type of species that has a wikipedia page but cannot be a specific character and they cannot be related to specific characters or biblical figures, etc. this would not be the place to write lucifer or a specific arch angel. michael, for example, is an existing arch angel. you can make up and write an arch angel because they'd be considered a species, but you cannot write michael specifically. this goes for greek mythology, bible figures, etc. we are not saying no to restrict anyone, we are saying no because these figures are known throughout the land in ridgeway as myths. there are many different myths surrounding god, lucifer, hades, etc. and if one character says they're related and makes up canon for them, it could confuse the rest of the community.

does my character have to live within ridgeway or be from ireland? no, your character can live in dublin outside of the small town of ridgeway as well. unless they can teleport they shouldn't live much further than that. everything supernatural is centered around ridgeway so your character should be close by. having said that, your character can be from anywhere in the world just so long as they speak english (to keep things simple).

journals and internet: whether these characters have been around for centuries or decades, they are familiar with the internet. their journals are connected to a private supernatural network, with forums and functions created especially for their supernatural needs.

we have an organic focus: we strongly encourage an environment focused on organic interaction and relationships. we do not have a strict rule to enforce this but suggest you only seek out family and roommates and co-workers and let the rest happen in character. your number one focus should be setting up your character, joining and interacting! not gathering connections or lines with everyone in pbads. having said that, this is only a recommendation and we are not placing limits on storylines.

what will the fp look like? this community will have a fp with mixed aspects of sol communities while of course, having a lot of different content. we do not have an overall plot like many supernatural places have in the past to push the fp forward. while we will have smaller plots occasionally that will effect your characters, it will not be the main theme here. our goals encompass character development and creativity. your character will use their journals the same way characters use their journals in sol however the topics of discussion will often be very different. plot posts and other activities will be included on the fp but this is not a community for open threading and posting your scenes for everyone to read. however, we strongly encourage narratives and character development based posts.

can my character be evil / bad? we encourage characters of all kinds here! good, bad, everything in between. we want people to be able to write the kind of character they want to write. however, you must use common sense when writing a character that is considered evil. they can't kill characters or supernatural creatures in ridgeway and get away with it for very long. they should have a personality bigger than simply being "evil". please make sure you create a well rounded character that will have believable friendships and connections otherwise no one can blame characters for not wanting to interact with yours ic.

ic vs. ooc is an important distinction you should already be familiar with. don't be blurry. don't attack someone ooc for something that happened ic and don't do something ic because of something ic. this community exists for fun. if you're the type to take things personally ooc then please don't join. everyone can be at odds ic but realistically everyone will be nice and friendly to everyone ooc.

setting up & applying
journals: they must be in character, have no numbers or underscores and should be legible. you should have at least one icon uploaded of your pb and a backdated ic & ooc post up in your journal. your ooc post should be screened but open to contact from us or other members.

character information: we do not require bios or lengthy character information here. your out of character post should have basic information outlined about your character that would include their full name, age and birthdate, what species they are (linked with a wiki page if they are not one of the ones listed on our species page), where they are from, etc. you are allowed to put up any kind of information you'd like and we encourage you do so over time!

examples: you should provide us with an example journal or links to custom posts containing your examples. do not pm or copy and paste your examples into comments on the drop-box post. we'd love to see two narratives and two thread/scene examples but will take a look at whatever you have. it is imperative that you remember to add us to them so that we may see them as we do look at examples. ridgeway will not accept every one that applies so be sure to supply your best and most recent writing.

rejection: as mentioned above, we are not a community that accepts everyone. we are not overly concerned with the size of the community. if we feel you would not be a good fit for the community or we feel that your examples are poor, or if there's an indication that you failed to read through the community info and species guidelines we will reject you. we reserve the right to make ridgeway into the community we want it to be and will not reply to comments about being rejected.

activity
requirements: we require you to post twice in one month. one post should be an update that showcases your character! narratives are encouraged but we will accept any update that develops your character or tells the community more about them. your second post should be interactive with the community some how. we will also be considering participating in group activities to count for your interactive requirement for the month but you must be present and friendly and active on the fp for it to count. you cannot simply post and run either! the entire point of having interactive posts is to promote interaction. you should be friendly outside of your main connections and this includes replying to the comments left for you. ignored comments will result in your interaction post not counting.

journals only, no wire: keep all in character activity on insanejournal. we are a wire/discord/google chat free community. keep up with intros, activities and everything happening on the fp and make customs a priority too.

removals: outside of the monthly timeline, removals will happen when your friends list is out of date more than 10 days or if you intro and fail to respond to the replies. keep in touch with us if you can't be around to reply to things in a reasonable amount of time. you will also be removed for harassing people, starting unnecessary ooc drama or ignoring any of the above rules.
